collages and a tooth....

i've decided that i don't have enough to do, because raking leaves after all is a losing battle!!! that can mean only one thing.....stress myself out making collages again! i love it. arek and zoey are all in my business when i craft, but who wouldn't be. if i was little and somebody was making something, i'd want to help to. i do and i'm big.....so i let them help me some this weekend...of course not without a whole bunch of "stop", "zoey not that one", "hey, don't touch that", and "that is sharp...put it down". then i cut my finger with the scissors and arek said a prayer to god that i wouldn't bleed to death......
before i get to that, i want to share a tip for getting those darn glue caps off.....good thing this doesn't happen with toothpaste.....anyway.....get some needlenose pliers and twist those stubborn sticky caps right off!!!
i use the goop that smells like you might pass out from sniffing too much. i'm sure it's so eco friendly.......
back to collages.....some little ditties that i plan to put in the box treasures....the glue is still wet with most of these.....

i just realized i forgot another one i made.....oh well.....at least i didn't forget to feed zoey....or did i??? what is this?????????? she is licking pixie stick sugar off the counter??????? i know, i know...shame on me. whatever....you are only a kid once. if she does this at prom, i'll ground her and take away her space shuttle or whatever toy is popular then.
and little ole arek. i love this kid. he helped me sort buttons friday night and we stayed up waaaayyy too late and giggled about stuff, watched the indigo girls and heart in concert, and rubbed our eyes and said whoooooo
when we found THIS...........
what in junk's name is this???? it is a tooth!!! we found in a really vintage jar of buttons and it grossed us both out, but i was still compelled to snap a photo of it. you know the funny thing is.....no fillings in this old tooth. probably didn't have pixie sugar and pop tarts back then to ruin the teeth....lol....then again, they may have needed pliers to get the toothpaste caps off!!
my kitchen counters are covered with craft stuff and there are crumbs all over my house.....better go pretend like i care and clean it up!
thanks for stopping by you all....

MY BOX TREASURE SAMPLES ARE HERE!!

i have started taking photos to show you samples of what my BOX TREASURES look like. it has taken me a while to get it together.....even when i'm together, i'm still not together. hubby motivated me today by taking the kids to the store and taking arek out and about for some errands too. ron told me to go 'work' on my box treasure blog shop and have fun. WHAT? okay....that means he spent money on something or did something bad and now he feels guilty....like he called me fat in front of his co-workers and now he feels shame. or maybe he spent the kids' christmas money from last year on running shoes and beef jerky....hmmmm....why so nice???????
anyway....if you want to check out samples, i will be uploading some this week as well....
happy saturday....thanks for stopping by.....stay tuned for the 'mystery tooth' find in a bowl of vintage buttons tomorrow. yikes. be careful what junk you drag home.....ack.

headed to the intervention room....cuz i'm a sucker for junk!

between the wind, rain and cold.....and a trip to the doc to discuss my mid-life issues....i decided to head to goodwill so zoey could nap in the buggy....head resting on a thrift pillow (hey...can't be any scarier than touching stuff at a doctor's office) and me in the china isle....BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH OF IT...looking for who knows what...more china of course??? i realize i just bought a cabinet full of china the other day and now i have more. can i have too much? i don't think so, but the rest of the human world that only has one set would call the hoarder specialists to come to my house for an intervention.
i would stand sadly....watching the "throw everything away people" gently pull all my pretty, pretty, pretty dishes out of my cabinets and put them in boxes so they could sling them hard into the back of that truck that says JUNK GOES HERE CUZ YOU ARE A LOSER. i would stand there and obsess about the chipped china with no mates....all crazed, rose covered and vintage sweet....and say 'leave that one there. i might glue it to a board or use it in my garden'. then the throw everything away intervention specialist would smile at me and pretend to care and then roll her eyes 1000 times when the camera is not pointed at her. i would fatigue after 3 hours of stacking plates by size, color, amount of roses, age, likability, and who knows what else. we would consider me a lost cause and i would go back into thrift world the next day and look for more pretty plates!!! and cups too. and a bunch of other crap i don't need.......
it's bad when the ladies at the local shops bring me out a BOX and say...."oh...wait....let me bring you out a box." what does that say about my excess??? i know the answer to that. it says i am headed to the intervention room......but only if you can find time to get me there. i will be busy on the lookout for more beautiful cast off lovelies......so i'm not going there yet.....
especially if i can find a VOILA rose cup for 50 cents and the cutest blue ring plate with roses for $1. and a whole bunch of other crap i don't need.....but those rose plates from england are gorgeous and that bottle with the stopper was cheaper than a whopper and the little roses on that blue rimmed plate are scrumptious and so is the pink lace and italian rose candle for $1. what can i say? i'm a sucker for junk.
i also found a bunch of white chenille balls that i want to glue onto a pillow. and i love this pink baby dress. 50cents for all that pretty smocking.
am i the only one that goes nuts in thrift shops? am i the only one that gets a box when i check out instead of a regular size shopping bag? am i the only one headed to the intervention room? am i the only one that can't stop myself? there must be others.
okay....i may go to bed before midnight. i think i need the sleep. i helped arek do so much math homework, that i might have earned some college credit. he brings home stuff with triangles and shared divisibility circles and stuff and what???? okay....you have 6 pretty vintage teacups with roses and 4 little ironstone butter pats and you need to find out shared divisibility....you can't find many because you need to buy more cups and pats to find more shared numbers. see what junking does to my brain?
thanks for stopping by.

45 treasures go to....

i'm sitting here in my own perspiration....not because this is the most exciting event of the day...(well, actually it might be..lol), but because my weary 45 year old body is hormonally challenged..
arek helped me pick a winner for this birthday giveaway and the treasures go to...SERENDIPITY SUE.......sue, you can email me with your address and i'll get your treasures out!!
thanks sue for entering your name and thanks to everyone else that put their name in this hat....
i will host another giveaway closer to the holidays....a vintage holiday giveaway....sometime at th beginning of december....so look for that.
thanks arek for your help....i would have let zoey help, but she has a GIANT cold sore on her lip!! right....ron told me...."i gave her blue eyes, pretty skin, strong bones, muscles, healthy body and pretty, big cheeks........you gave her herpes." thanks ron.....hate to say you stand correct.
i had to throw all zoey's makeup away.....just like i have to do for myself. a little bacteria can set off a HUGE outbreak of cold sores....ugh. poor zoey.
i have been working on tags a little. i manage to sneak to the sewing room and make one or two in between feeding kids, cleaning house and washing piles of laundry that i senselessly have around here....why so much laundry???? i think my cat drags it in.
and bliss.....i love this Christian Lacroix water bottles.....
who would have thought BIGLOTS???? it's a bit of an oxymoron to have Christian Lacroix and BIGLOTS in the same sentence, but that's the power of mediocrity and mass production, right? giving someone on my budget a chance for designer water....i'd rather have a handbag or a gorgeous dress, but i'll take the bottles for $1 instead...lol
thanks for stopping by....

projects and embarassment....

so i finally turned off the news last night when i realized that it was more toxic to watch it than to just find something creative to do. for my buds at fort hood....i'm thinking of you all. stay safe.
then i pulled out some of that 10cent junk and starting messing around with some collages. i haven't made any in what seems like a very long time. i have no real workspace. i don't dare stay in that basement of ours too long for fear that i will be eaten by the BIG GIANT (yes...two adjectives are needed here) wolf spiders that taunt me with those huge legs and hairy bodies.....
yikes...i saw one today and actually screamed at it..."i am bigger than you and i am not afraid". then i turned my back for an instant and i couldn't see the spider anymore. i got scared and came upstairs.
i found these cast off silver trays for nothing and altered them. the pink framed collages below were 2 DUCK scenes that i painted over. sorry for all of the duck loving hunting nature mallard collectors out there, but i just wasn't feeling it. i paid a dime for the prints, so what the hey?
i sewed the one below and glued it to the board. i still plan to paint a little flower over the lady's head and then it's finished.
now onto bigger and scarier projects. i attempted to sew a really sweet slipcover for a lawn chair on my porch. what am i doing???? my, my. i can't explain how painful this is to look at. i put it out on my porch anyway. then i tried to sew another one and it was worse. i actually have panels pinned to the cover that i can't figure out how to sew. if i was a surgeon, i'd operate with pinking shears, a hot glue gun and a crooked incision.
i found this cute ticking pillow as is and just attached a little gem.
i think black ticking looks great with red. i found a HUGE rose tablecloth for $5 and cut it up to make pillows. this one is long and i added fringe and buttons. still scary, but not as scary as the chair.
and then i found this little stool for $2 that i painted blue and made a little cover for. zoey helped me put the pins in. wonderful little project for a 3 year old, don't ya think?
that is about it. i'm still achin, so i'm going to go lay down.....the only time i've left the house in 4 days was to take arek for his teacher conference. after that we went junking for a short while and then to the waffle house, where i proceeded to tell 5 construction workers that i have HIV. this tall, good looking guy opened the door for me and arek and asked me how i was doing. i said okay and thanked him and said that i was feeling under weather with my HIV virus. SLIP up. those men all stared at me and laughed. i was mortified. i said...."no, not that virus...the other one...the swine flu one and probably not even that." those men still backed away like i had the plague. yiked.
okay....thanks for stopping by.....you all have a great treasure hunting weekend!!!
ALSO..... you can still put your comments on the giveaway post below.....i will take comments for the giveaway until tomorrow by 5pm!!!! thanks.

BIRTHDAY GIVEAWAY!!!!

in lieu of my 45th birthday (november 5) and the launch of my BOX TREASURES blog, i am hosting a giveaway of 45 tiny treasures......
i was going to give something away from the 1960s, but instead i decided to give away 45 things to match my age......although i don't look at day over 25....right....i am sure i'll throw in a few more treasures as well though!!!
just leave a comment and i'll pick a winner on SATURDAY.
until then....i'm down with a cold and feeling icky, so i'm going to go lay back down on the couch and let the kids jump on me.....
you all have a great night i'll blog more about my sewing adventures when i feel up to it!!!

SPOOKS FOR SPOOKS.....

the night was windy....rainy....spooky....wicked......
dusk was approaching and the spirits were out......fog was rolling across the bay and they air smelled of wet leaves and fall's spooky slumber. there was a chill in the air and the spooks were approaching.....vampires were dressed in $3 vintage tuxedos and knock-off crocs. i didn't know vampires wore $3 white tuxedos from the 70's and knock off crocks....
but don't laugh at them....for they will hunt the blood that feeds them...and then disco dance all night long...lol
and i didn't know milk maids wore lipstick on their foreheads....or is that a bite from her brother....hmmmmmm....only the pumpkin knows.....
FYI....i have tweaked my BOX TREASURES blog again. at some point it will make sense and look more like an online blog shop and less like a blah, blah, what are you talking about blog.
again....thanks to all that have ordered. i look forward to this venture....thanks for for the support.
better go to bed. i have watched waaaayyy too many wild babies in the elements shows tonight on public tv....if i have to watch one more animal baby get kicked or eaten by the dad or not so strong male or watch one more mom animal abandon her baby for fear of losing the pack, i will have to go to therapy.....it's all too consuming for me.
okay...i am falling out from FALLing back....and it's only an hour, but it still feels like jetlag....dark days ahead....dark days ahead. that means only one thing!!!! more coffee and more itunes while i cook dinner. whatever lifts the winter's dark fury out of my kitchen.
you all have a great night.
lol
